On Cyclic Covers and Perfect Models
نویسنده
چکیده
The relationship between cyclic covers and perfect models of indefinite stratified deductive databases is discussed with respect to query answering, view updates and partial evaluation. The notion of a conjunctive answer to a database query is introduced, and such answers are shown to have a number of advantages over (the more commonly studied) “disjunctive” answers. The problem of computing conjunctive answers is shown to be a special case of the view update problem. Cyclic covers are shown to characterise perfect models, conjunctive answers and view updates, and using this characterisation a method is presented for solving the view update problem, and hence for computing conjunctive answers. In addition, cyclic covers are shown to yield methods of partially evaluating (ie., pre-processing) the intensional database, for instance to facilitate query compilation, the removal of recursion and the removal of positive or negative intensional sub-goals. Such pre-processing is immune to future changes in the extensional database.

On generalizations of semiperfect and perfect rings
We call a ring $R$ right generalized semiperfect if every simple right $R$-module is an epimorphic image of a flat right $R$-module with small kernel, that is, every simple right $R$-module has a flat $B$-cover. We give some properties of such rings along with examples. We introduce flat strong covers as flat covers which are also flat $B$-covers and give characterizations of $A$-perfe...
متن کاملCovers for S-acts and Condition (a) for a Monoid S
A monoid S satisfies Condition (A) if every locally cyclic left S-act is cyclic. This condition first arose in Isbell’s work on left perfect monoids, that is, monoids such that every left S-act has a projective cover. Isbell showed that S is left perfect if and only if every cyclic left S-act has a projective cover and Condition (A) holds. Fountain built on Isbell’s work to show that S is left ...

متن کاملCounting Rational Points on Smooth Cyclic Covers
A conjecture of Serre concerns the number of rational points of bounded height on a finite cover of projective space Pn−1. In this paper, we achieve Serre’s conjecture in the special case of smooth cyclic covers of any degree when n ≥ 10, and surpass it for covers of degree r ≥ 3 when n > 10. This is achieved by a new bound for the number of perfect r-th power values of a polynomial with nonsin...
متن کاملA Perfect Specialization Model for Gravity Equation in Bilateral Trade based on Production Structure
Although initially originated as a totally empirical relationship to explain the volume of trade between two partners, gravity equation has been the focus of several theoretic models that try to explain it. Specialization models are of great importance in providing a solid theoretic ground for gravity equation in bilateral trade. Some research papers try to improve specialization models by addi...
